Couture refers to the art of handmade clothing, using the finest of techniques in building a garment. Couture literally translates from French as "dressmaking".  As part of the couture process, the couturier always starts with a working muslin, referred to as a "toile". The toile is a preliminary garment made of inexpensive muslin. Working with a toile enables the client and the designer to see first hand the silhouette and the fit of the design which is to become the finished garment. It also enables the couturier to adapt the pattern to the specifications of the client, change style lines if necessary and ensure a perfect fit. The final garment, will be constructed of beautiful textiles and components chosen with you.
